Project Overview

Ever felt like finding a church should feel as warm as a Sunday hug? Church Hive is my answer—a full-stack app that connects you to local churches and events with a tap that feels like home. With Google Maps integration, event browsing, and a mobile-first design, it’s built to make faith communities more accessible than ever. I poured my heart into crafting an interface that’s as intuitive as it is inviting, proving that tech can be a bridge to something bigger.

Core Features

  • Find Your Flock: Search for local churches geographically with Google Maps integration—your next spiritual home is just a pin away.
  • Event Buzz: Browse and join church events effortlessly, staying in the loop with what's happening in your community.
  • Mobile-First Magic: A responsive design that shines on any device, thanks to Ionic, so you can connect on the go.
  • Church Profiles Galore: View, add, update, or delete church listings with ease, keeping the community fresh and active.

Technical Implementation

I built the front end with React and Ionic to make sure it looks great on any device—because faith shouldn’t be limited by screen size. Express and MySQL powers the back end, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Google Maps API brings geographic search to life, letting you find churches near you with ease. I hit a bump with data models not playing nice between the front and back ends, but I rolled up my sleeves and streamlined the models to keep everything in harmony. My team kept the project on track with Trello and a Kanban board, because even tech needs a little organization.

Project Impact

Church Hive launched as a game-changer for faith communities, helping churches broaden their reach and giving users a go-to resource for spiritual connection. Its intuitive interface, mobile-first design, and seamless functionality show I can build full-stack apps that make a real difference. This project is a testament to my ability to blend modern tech with a heart for community, creating meaningful experiences that bring people closer to faith.

Key Takeaways

This project was my tech-meets-faith playground—I leveled up my React and Ionic skills, learned to sync front and back ends like a pro, and saw how a thoughtful interface can make a community feel closer. Using Trello and Kanban kept us on track, reminding me that with faith in the process, I can build something that truly connects people to purpose.
